Hey all. I just pushed an update to the dashboard to make it more useful. It now has a featured users section, your followers/follwees, and the newest members of each type of user. I also dug into the query that builds it and sped it up quite a bit because it was starting to chug.
Enjoy :). If you have any feedback let me know.
I'm not a fan of the name "Dashboard" because it sounds too much like a utility so I want to change it to something that better captures what it's function is. I'm stuck on coming up with a name though. So far the best I've come up with is scuttlebutt (gossip). Halp!
CMW announced their 2015 lineup today. Among the headliners are Faith No More, Alvvays, Fidlar, King Tuff, Billy Talent, Lights, Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds and Cloud Nothings. Read the full article on Exclaim! for more.
Apparently I'm feeling playlist-y today so I've cobbled together an Rdio playlist of some of the lineup for your listening pleasure.
I'm going to start collecting links to news and adding them to playlist descriptions along side some albums/songs relevant to the news. If you don't have Rdio unfortunately it doesn't show the description (aka, the news), but for any Rdio users feel free to read as you listen. This will likely be a semi-regular project.

I just stumbled into predominant.ly today, a service to discover music by the album cover's color. You can guess at names in the URL or use the color picker at the top to hop around. I'm not sure how much album color suggests about the music, but its definitely a very visual experience nonetheless.
@Ozone pointed out that multimedia support would be a nice addition. We have support planned and will be doing it in a way that copies how existing things work. Any feedback or additional player suggestions would be much appreciated.
We'll be adding support for embedding Youtube, Vimeo, and Soundcloud players into discussion posts, comments, notes, and in messages. The way you'll embed the content is by using the normal image syntax with a link to the content you're sharing instead of an image. That will look something like ! [Title/Short Description] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iP9xMobANJM), but without the spaces (it would get processed as an image if I didn't add them).
Any feedback would be appreciated :)
Iggy Pop did this year's John Peel Lecture and he hit the nail on the head so many times throughout. Of course, who would know more about getting fucked by the industry than Iggy Pop.
Some choice quotes that stood out:
"A good LP is a being, it is not a product. It has a life force, a personality, and a history just like you and me. It can be your friend. Try explaining that to a weasel."
"Music had became an industrial art, and it was the people who excelled at the industry who got to make the art."
"Traditional music was never a for profit enterprise. All the best forms were developed as your job in the community."
"The best way to survive the death or change of an industry is to transcend its form. You're better off with an identity of your own."
If you want a crash course on the way the industry works, that video is pretty enlightening. Do any other quotes ring true for you?
The dust has barely settled on the U2 release stunt, and it seems the next curve ball has arrived, but this time its more of a head scratcher.
Usher is releasing exclusive downloads for a song off his upcoming album 'UR' in the form of a prize in boxes of Cheerios sold by Walmart.
Is this the new music? Cracker Jack style distribution via Walmart?
Toronto mystery man and music scene legend Lonely Vagabond has put together a GIF rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody that's featured on Buzzfeed. It features plenty of local references that are bound to give fellow Torontonians a chuckle. Best enjoyed while actually listening to Bohemian Rhapsody of course.
The internet has no shortage of animated awesome in the form of GIFs, so I thought we'd do the internet a service and collect the best music GIFs here. Go!
Most of the time I tend to ignore Rdio's suggestions and just find my own music once an album has finished but today I'm glad I listened to the robots at Rdio because they introduced me to an incredible duo called Hella. I listened to Better Get a Broom as per Rdio's suggestion and have been sitting here enjoying the rest of the album. If you like fast, trebly, melodic riffs, and faster drums with lots of splashing hi hats, the next ~30 minutes of your life are right here.
+1 Rdio AutoPlay today.
